Certified organic, the 2019 vintage (5*) is labelled in honour of Hätsch Kalberer, Fromm's winemaker since the first vintage in 1992. Designed as 'a mindful blend of what our single-vineyard wines offer as a composite', it was blended from hand-picked grapes grown at five sites in the Southern Valleys, plus the Fromm Vineyard near Renwick, in the heart of the Wairau Valley, and matured for 15 to 18 months in French oak casks (less than 10 per cent new). Full, bright ruby, it is a mouthfilling, very ageworthy red, already enjoyable, with deep cherry, plum and spice flavours, showing excellent complexity, and a fairly firm, long finish. Best drinking 2024+.
