Main Divide Chardonnay (2016)

The Main Divide range, from Pegasus Bay, is based on South Island grapes. The 2015 vintage (3.5*), grown in North Canterbury, was fermented with indigenous yeasts and lees-matured for a year in old French oak casks, ‘restricting any pick-up of oak flavours and allowing the fruit to express itself’. Bright, light lemon/green, it is full-bodied, with good depth of peachy, slightly spicy and honeyed flavours, fresh acidity and a touch of complexity. Drink now to 2018. The 2016 vintage (4*) is a blend of North Canterbury and Marlborough grapes. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for a year in old French oak barrels, it is light yellow/green, mouthfilling and generous, with ripe, peachy flavours, balanced acidity, considerable complexity and a slightly creamy finish. Already drinking well, it should be at its best during 2018.
