Te Whau Vineyard Waiheke Island Chardonnay (2014)

For its sheer vintage-to-vintage consistency, this has been Te Whau’s finest wine. Full of personality, it has beautifully ripe fruit characters showing excellent concentration, nutty oak and a long, finely poised finish. The 2014 vintage (5*) was hand-picked and fermented and lees-aged for 10 months in one-year-old French oak barriques. Light lemon/green, it is weighty, sweet-fruited, rich and rounded, with generous stone-fruit flavours, a delicate seasoning of oak, and a finely textured, very harmonious finish. Delicious young, it’s also well worth cellaring.
