Mountford Waipara Valley Pinot Gris (2011)

Ensconced in a 750-ml bottle, the 2011 vintage (4*) is a honey-sweet, low-alcohol (9.5 per cent) style from fully botrytised grapes, not estate-grown. Light straw, it is peachy, honeyed and smooth, with gentle acidity, excellent richness and harmony, and lots of drink-young appeal. (If it were not for this wine’s name and bottle size, it would be reviewed in the Sweet White Wines section of the Guide.)
