Johanneshof Cellars Emmi Methode Traditionnelle (2007)

The 2007 vintage (4.5*) is made almost entirely from Pinot Noir (1 per cent Chardonnay), drawn equally from the Maybern home vineyard, at Koromiko, and from the Wairau Plains. Disgorged after a minimum of five years on its yeast lees, the sample I tasted in mid 2014 (4.5*) is pale straw, with a steady ‘bead’. Rich and smooth, with lively, peachy, slightly spicy and toasty flavours, it is crisp and complex, with an unusually dry (4grams/litre residual sugar) but finely balanced, lingering finish.
