Albariño, according to The Hunting Lodge, 'offers the best parts of a Riesling and Viognier, but with none of their hang-ups.' The lively 2021 vintage (4.5*) is a single-vineyard, Awatere Valley wine, 10 per cent barrel-fermented. Bright, light lemon/green, it is a strongly varietal wine, mouthfilling, vibrant and finely balanced, with strong, citrusy, peachy, spicy flavours and a crisp, basically dry (3.3 grams/litre of residual sugar), lingering finish. Best drinking mid-2022+.
