From the old site of Matua Valley, in West Auckland, the impressive 2020 vintage (5*) is rare – only 650 bottles were produced. Hand-picked from vines planted in 2008, it was fermented and lees-aged for nine months in French oak barriques (30 per cent new). Pale gold, it is a mouthfilling, well-rounded wine, full of northern warmth. Already highly enjoyable, it has generous, ripe stonefruit flavours, complex and savoury, and a very harmonious, long finish.
