Pask Declaration Gimblett Gravels Chardonnay (2019)

The winery's top Chardonnay is estate-grown in the Gimblett Gravels, Hawke's Bay. Still on sale, the 2016 vintage (4.5*) was fermented and matured for 11 months in French oak puncheons (67 per cent new). Retasted in April 2021, it is a bright, light yellow/green, full-bodied wine, tightly structured, with strong, citrusy, peachy, slightly toasty flavours, woven with fresh acidity. The classy, youthful 2019 vintage (5*) was fermented and matured for 10 months in French oak barriques (55 per cent new). Bright, light lemon/green, it is a refined, subtle wine, weighty and harmonious, with rich grapefruit and biscuity oak flavours, showing excellent delicacy and depth, and a long, dry finish. Best drinking 2023+.
