Paddy Borthwick Left Hand Wairarapa Pinot Noir (2019)

Estate-grown at Gladstone, in the northern Wairarapa, this small-volume red (1450 bottles in 2019) gives left-handed winemaker Briony Carnachan the chance to express her 'logical, creative and precise' approach. Deeply coloured, the 2019 vintage (5*) was matured for 11 months in French oak barrels (40 per cent new). Softly mouthfilling, it is powerful (14.9 per cent alcohol), with highly concentrated, very ripe, plummy, spicy flavours, gentle tannins and a rich, very harmonious finish. Already delicious, it's also well worth cellaring.
