From one of Italy's most widely planted red wine varieties – especially in Piedmont – the bold 2019 vintage (4.5*) was grown at Matakana and matured in an Italian clay amphora. Dark and robust (15 per cent alcohol), it is a powerful, youthful, characterful red with strong, plummy, spicy flavours, fresh acidity, considerable complexity and good tannin backbone. Likely to be long-lived, it's well worth cellaring to 2023+.
