An emerging classic this Central Hawke's Bay wine is estate-grown, hand-picked and typically partly barrel-fermented. The impressive 2019 vintage (5*) is rare – only 70 cases were produced. Bright, light lemon/green, it is highly aromatic, mouthfilling, fresh and concentrated, with slightly toasty notes adding complexity, and a dry (4 grams/litre of residual sugar) finish. Weighty, vigorous and lingering, it shows strong personality. Unfolding very gracefully at three years old, the 2018 vintage (5*) is highly fragrant and full-bodied, with concentrated, fresh, peachy, citrusy, spicy flavours, now developing bottle-aged complexity, and a basically dry (5 grams/litre of residual sugar), lasting finish. The youthful, bright, light lemon/green 2020 vintage (5*) is also impressive. A distinctive wine, it is mouthfilling, fresh and dry (4.5 grams/litre of residual sugar), with balanced acidity and vigorous, citrusy, limey, spicy flavours, showing excellent harmony, delicacy and depth. Best drinking mid-2022+.
