The 2018 vintage (5*) was estate-grown in the Gimblett Gravels, blended with a splash of Te Awanga Viognier (1 per cent), and matured for 21 months in French oak barriques (53 per cent new). Dark and still purple-flushed, it is a powerful, full-bodied wine, with concentrated blackcurrant and plum flavours, hints of spices and liquorice, finely balanced tannins, excellent complexity and a long finish. Already delicious, it's also well worth cellaring to 2024+.
