144 Islands Bay of Islands Chardonnay (2020)

Grown in the Home Block, near Kerikeri, the attractive 2020 vintage (4.5*) was fermented and matured for six months in Hungarian and French oak puncheons. Bright, light yellow/green, it is weighty, with concentrated, youthful stonefruit flavours, enriched by biscuity oak, and a well-rounded finish. Already enjoyable, it should break into full stride 2023+. The 2019 vintage (4.5*) is a rare wine – only 750 bottles were produced. A classic northern style, it is sturdy, ripe and smooth, with generous, peachy, biscuity, mealy flavours, showing good complexity, and a slightly creamy texture. Already very expressive, it's a drink-now or cellaring proposition.
