Man O' War Ironclad (2017)

This powerful red is estate-grown at the eastern end of Waiheke Island. The 2017 vintage (5*) is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, matured in French oak barriques (32 per cent new). Deeply coloured, with a fragrant, slightly earthy bouquet, it is sturdy and complex, with deep blackcurrant, red-berry, plum and spice flavours, seasoned with nutty oak, and ripe, supple tannins. A very harmonious red, it's a drink-now or cellaring proposition.
