Given its track record of good quality, low price and huge volumes (batch variation is inevitable), this non-vintage bubbly has been a miracle of modern winemaking for several decades. Made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, grown in Gisborne and Hawke's Bay, it is matured for a year on its yeast lees, and blended with some reserve wine from past vintages. Fractionally sweet (12 grams/litre of residual sugar), it typically has good vigour and depth, with moderate complexity and lively, lemony, slightly nutty and yeasty flavours.
