Scented and supple, the 2018 vintage (4.5*) was estate-grown and hand-picked at Gibbston, and matured for a year in French oak casks (40 per cent new). Ruby-hued, it is a refined, vibrantly fruity wine with ripe cherry, plum and spice flavours, a hint of herbs, good complexity and a smooth finish. Best drinking 2022+. Retasted in October 2020, the 2014 vintage (4*) is fragrant, with full, fairly mature colour. Mouthfilling, it has concentrated, ripe cherry and plum flavours, hints of liquorice and dried herbs, and savoury notes adding complexity. (The 2014 has been rereleased at $95).
