Since the debut 2014 vintage (5*), Burn Cottage, based in the Cromwell Basin, has drawn grapes from the more elevated Valli Vineyard, at Gibbston (for their reverse swap, see Valli Burn Cottage Vineyard Central Otago Pinot Noir). Matured in French oak barriques (29 per cent new), the 2017 vintage (5*) is rich and finely textured. From 18-year-old vines, it is deeply coloured and highly fragrant. A powerful red, it has notably dense, plummy, slightly herbal and spicy flavours, youthful vigour, and ripe, supple tannins. Best drinking 2022+.
