Babich Winemakers' Reserve Hawke's Bay Merlot (2016)

Grown in the Irongate Vineyard, in the Gimblett Gravels, the 2016 vintage (4.5*) was French oak-aged for a year. Full-coloured and fragrant, it is fresh and full-bodied, with strong berry, plum and spice flavours, savoury and complex, supple tannins, and obvious potential. A refined, silky-textured red, it should be at its best 2022+.
