Launched in 2016 – a century after Babich's first vintage in 1916 – the rare 2013 vintage (5*) was not shown to critics. Still on sale, it was estate-grown in the Gimblett Gravels, Hawke's Bay, and French oak-aged. Deeply coloured and weighty, it is sweet-fruited and savoury, with complex flavours of blackcurrant, plums and spices, and a tight, exceptionally long finish.
