Starborough Family Estate Marlborough Pinot Gris (2018)

The attractive 2017 vintage (4*) is a blend of Awatere Valley and Wairau Valley grapes, mostly handled in tanks; 10 per cent of the blend was barrel-fermented. Invitingly scented, it is mouthfilling and vibrantly fruity, with strong pear and lychee flavours, a touch of complexity, fractional sweetness (6 grams/litre of residual sugar), lively acidity, and excellent freshness, varietal character and harmony. The youthful 2018 vintage (4*) is very fresh and lively. Bright, light lemon/green, it has generous, peachy, slightly spicy flavours, showing a touch of complexity, finely balanced acidity and a dryish finish. Best drinking mid-2019+.
