Cloudy Bay Te Wahi Central Otago Pinot Noir (2018)

Retasted in mid 2018, the very youthful 2015 vintage (5*) of Te Wahi (‘The Place’) was estate-grown in the Calvert Vineyard at Bannockburn and Northburn Vineyard, on the east bank of Lake Dunstan. Fermented with indigenous yeasts, it was matured for a year in French oak barriques (35 per cent new). Deep, bright ruby, it is a powerful, sturdy, complex red with a savoury bouquet, concentrated, well-ripened cherry, plum, spice and nut flavours, good complexity and tannin backbone, and obvious cellaring potential; best drinking 2021+.
