Consistently classy. Grown at sites on the cooler, more clay-influenced south side of the Wairau Valley, the 2016 vintage (4.5*) was matured for a year in French oak barriques (35 per cent new). Bright ruby, it is invitingly fragrant. Mouthfilling, sweet-fruited and supple, it has good concentration of cherry, plum and spice flavours, savoury notes adding complexity, and lots of current-drinking appeal. An age-worthy wine, it should be at its best 2020+.
