The Clos Henri Vineyard near Renwick is owned by Henri Bourgeois, a leading, family-owned producer in the Loire Valley, which feels this wine expresses ‘a unique terroir . . . and French winemaking approach’. A sophisticated and distinctive Sauvignon Blanc, in top years it’s a joy to drink. Certified organic, the 2016 vintage (5*) was hand-picked and mostly fermented and matured for eight months on its yeast lees in tanks; 15 per cent was fermented in old French oak barrels. Bright, light lemon/green, it is mouthfilling, fresh and concentrated, with rich, ripe tropical-fruit flavours, showing very good complexity, lively acidity and a persistent, fully dry finish. It should be long-lived, but is already drinking well.
