Waipara Hills Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc (2017)

Grown mostly (70 per cent) in the Awatere Valley, the 2016 vintage (4*) is a weighty, sweet-fruited wine with vibrant melon/lime flavours, woven with fresh, finely balanced acidity, and a dry finish. Ripely scented, it’s a subtle, satisfying style of Sauvignon Blanc, drinking well young. The light lemon/green 2017 vintage (3.5*) is a tangy, medium-bodied wine, with good depth of fresh tropical-fruit and herbaceous flavours, and a dry (4.2 grams/litre of residual sugar), crisp finish.
