From Palliser Estate, the 2014 vintage (4*) is a great buy (especially on special in supermarkets). Estate-grown, fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for a year in French oak (20 per cent new), it rivals the quality of many producers’ $30-plus Pinot Noirs. Full ruby, it is mouthfilling and savoury, with generous cherry, plum, spice and nut flavours, showing good complexity, and gentle tannins. Drink now or cellar.
