Esk Valley Marlborough Pinot Noir (2014)

The 2013 vintage (4*) is full-coloured, mouthfilling and savoury, with good concentration of plummy, cherryish, spicy flavours, supple tannins and a well-rounded finish. The 2014 (3.5*) was matured for 11 months in French oak casks (10 per cent new). Ruby-hued, it is scented, plummy and slightly spicy, with good depth of ripe, sweet-fruit flavours, a gentle seasoning of oak and a smooth finish.
