A top vintage of this extremely rare variety in New Zealand, the 2013 (4*) was estate-grown at Roy’s Hill, in the Gimblett Gravels of Hawke’s Bay, and matured for 18 months in American oak casks (40 per cent new). Full-coloured, with a fragrant bouquet of plums and spices, it’s a medium to full-bodied, youthful, rather syrah-like wine, in a vibrant, cool-climate style with very good depth and persistence. Certified organic. Best drinking 2016-17.
