Squawking Magpie Platinum Gimblett Gravels Chardonnay (2010)

The debut 2010 vintage (5*) is extremely rare – only 50 cases were produced. From vines planted mostly in 1994, and fermented and matured in French oak casks (25 per cent new), it is a lemon-scented, weighty Hawke’s Bay wine, concentrated, citrusy and complex. Mealy and slightly minerally, with deep, vibrant, very youthful flavours and a lasting finish, it should flourish with cellaring; open 2015+.
