Spy Valley Envoy Johnson Vineyard Waihopai Valley Marlborough Pinot Noir (2012)

(Previously labelled ‘Envoy Single Vineyard’.) Estate-grown in the lower Waihopai Valley, the 2012 vintage (4.5*) was hand-picked at over 25 brix from the oldest vines and barrel-aged for 18 months. Still very youthful, it is richly coloured, with substantial body and fresh acidity woven through its impressively concentrated cherry, plum and spice flavours. A tightly structured, supple wine, it’s well worth cellaring to 2016+.
