Waikato-based winemaker Horst Hillerich usually buys his Riesling grapes from Gisborne. The 2011 vintage (3.5*), briefly oak-matured, is a characterful wine. Bright, light lemon/green, it is a medium-dry style (10 grams/litre of residual sugar), with ripe, slightly spicy and gingery flavours, a hint of oak, and plenty of personality. Drink now or cellar.
