In top vintages, this is one of Hawke’s Bay’s greatest Syrahs. The 2013 (5*), hand-picked in the company’s Mere Road and Trust Block vineyards, was matured for 17 months in French oak hogsheads (46 per cent new.) Deeply coloured, it is deliciously fragrant and supple, with fresh, concentrated plum and black pepper flavours and a sustained, spicy finish. Rich, finely textured and very harmonious, it’s already drinking well, but should be at its best 2017+.
