The 2012 vintage (4.5*) is a blend of Wairau Valley (83 per cent) and Awatere Valley (17 per cent) grapes, fermented – partly with indigenous yeasts – in French oak barrels (new and one year old) and given a full, softening malolactic fermentation. The bouquet is oaky, slightly mealy and buttery; the palate is powerful, with substantial body, concentrated, peachy, mealy, toasty flavours, and a hint of butterscotch. A ‘full-on’ style, it has obvious cellaring potential; open 2015+.
