Gibbston Valley Le Maitre Gibbston Central Otago Pinot Noir (2014)

The elegant 2013 vintage (5*) was grown in the Home Block at Gibbston, where most of the vines were planted in 1984. Matured for 10 months in French oak barriques (33 per cent new), it is fullish and youthful in colour, highly scented and silky, with lovely texture and harmony. Sweet-fruited, it is a wine of beauty rather than power, likely to be at its best 2016+. The 2014 vintage (5*), also from the original vines (now certified organic), was matured in French oak casks (40 per cent new.) Densely coloured, it conveys a real sense of youthful vigour and long-term potential. Rich, sweet-fruited and supple, with substantial body and fresh, highly concentrated cherry/plum flavours, it’s still a baby, with lovely fragrance, depth and harmony. Open 2018+.
