Destiny Bay Magna Praemia (2010)

The 2009 vintage (5*) is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (72 per cent) and Merlot (19 per cent), with minor portions of Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Matured in a 50/50 split of French and American oak casks (70 per cent new), it is full and youthful in colour, with concentrated blackcurrant, plum, spice and nut flavours, showing excellent complexity, that build across the palate to a firm, powerful finish. Drink now or cellar. The 2010 vintage (5*), not yet released, shows lovely weight, ripeness and harmony, in a highly concentrated, very youthful, ageworthy style that reminded me of a fine St Estephe. ($195 to Patron Club members.)
