Corofin Settlement Vineyard East Slope Marlborough Pinot Noir (2012)

Corofin is a new venture by Mike Paterson (formerly winemaker at Jackson Estate) and his wife, Anna. From young vines on clay soils in the Omaka Valley, the 2012 vintage (4.5*) is a highly auspicious debut. Matured in mostly seasoned French oak casks and bottled unfined and unfiltered, it is deep ruby, with a fragrant, plummy, spicy bouquet. Mouthfilling, with ripe cherry, plum, spice and nut flavours, it is savoury and silky, with excellent complexity and a long, finely textured finish. A very graceful wine, it’s already delicious, but should be at its best 2015+.
