Coopers Creek SV Gisborne Allison Marsanne (2013)

The impressive 2013 vintage (4.5*) is the first unblended Marsanne ever made in New Zealand. Handled in five-year-old oak casks, it is fleshy and vibrantly fruity, with strong, ripe, citrusy, peachy flavours, lively but not high acidity and a fully dry (2.5 grams/litre of residual sugar) finish. It’s difficult to assign a star rating to this powerful, poised wine, given the lack of other New Zealand Marsannes, but it’s full of youthful vigour and is a highly auspicious debut.
