This is usually an estate-grown, single-vineyard red from Gibbston, but in 2012 (4*) a storm damaged the fruit, so grapes were purchased from nearby sites at Gibbston. Matured for a year in French oak casks (40 per cent new), it is a full-coloured, youthful wine with excellent depth of ripe plum, spice and dried-herb flavours. Fresh and savoury, it shows good complexity, with gentle tannins and obvious cellaring potential.
