Brookfields Reserve Vintage [Gold Label] Cabernet/Merlot (2013)

Brookfields’ top red is one of the most powerful and long-lived reds in Hawke’s Bay. At its best, it is a thrilling wine – robust, tannin-laden and overflowing with very rich cassis, plum and mint flavours. The grapes are sourced from the Lyons family’s sloping, north-facing vineyard at Bridge Pa, and the wine is matured for 15 to 18 months in French oak barriques (mostly new). The bold, still extremely youthful 2013 vintage (5*) has dense, inky colour. Mouthfilling, it is fresh and highly concentrated, with blackcurrant and spice flavours, a hint of dark chocolate, and impressive richness, ripeness and complexity. Best drinking 2018+.
