Bond Road Ormond Gewürztraminer (2009)

From Vinoptima, the debut 2009 vintage (4.5*) is made in a slightly drier style (13.9 grams/litre of residual sugar) than its far higher-priced stablemate. From vines planted at Ormond, in Gisborne, in 2006–07, and handled partly in large oak foudres, it is fragrant and full-bodied (14 per cent alcohol), with generous, ripe peach, lychee, ginger and spice flavours, in a distinctly Alsace style, showing good complexity. Delicious now, it should be at its best 2015+.
