Koru Marlborough Pinot Noir (2013)

This rare red flowed between 2004 and 2007 from a tiny 1.1-hectare vineyard at the foot of the Wither Hills, but the site has since been sold and the brand and stocks were acquired by Kemp Rare Wines. Released in 2013, the 2009 vintage (3.5*) was matured in seasoned French oak barriques for up to two years. Lightish in colour, with a hint of development, it is savoury and supple, with strawberry and spice flavours. A mellow wine, it’s enjoyable now, but lacks the concentration of the top earlier vintages.
