Invivo Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc (2012)

From an Auckland-based company, this wine is a punchy, dry style, grown mostly in the late-ripening Westhaven Vineyard, near the Awatere Valley. The 2011 vintage (5*) is rich and refined, with finely balanced, slightly nettley flavours, minerally and tight, and impressive intensity, delicacy, harmony and length. The 2012 (4.5*) is aromatic, with excellent intensity of melon, passionfruit and lime flavours, showing a touch of complexity and a long, dry (3.5 grams/litre of residual sugar) finish. Poised and rich, it offers great value.
