Villa Maria Cellar Selection Hawke’s Bay Merlot [Organic] (2009)

BioGro certified, the 2009 vintage (4*) is a blend of Merlot (90 per cent) and Malbec (10 per cent), grown in the company’s Joseph Soler Vineyard, on the edge of the Gimblett Gravels, and matured in tanks and French oak barriques (15 per cent new). Floral and supple, it is a full-coloured, very graceful red with strong, ripe, plummy flavours that flow to a finely textured finish. Possessing good tannin backbone, it’s well worth cellaring to 2012+.
