Poderi Crisci Waiheke Merlot Reserva (2009)

The impressive 2009 vintage (4.5*) was estate-grown, hand-harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for 18 months in French oak barriques (30 per cent new). Promisingly dark, with spicy oak aromas, it has deep blackcurrant, plum, spice and nut flavours, showing good, savoury complexity, and slightly chewy tannins. It should be long-lived; open 2013+.
