Leaning Rock Central Otago Rosa Muskat (2008)

Still on sale, the attractively perfumed 2008 vintage (4*), grown at Alexandra, is not a true Muscat, but based on a variety – also called Schönburger – bred by crossing Pinot Noir, Chasselas and Muscat Hamburg. Full of charm, it’s a juicy, gently sweet, medium-bodied wine with distinct hints of oranges and pineapples, none of the earthiness typical of most white wines made from Pinot Noir, gentle acidity and very good depth. Worth trying.
