Gibbston Valley Reserve Chardonnay (2009)

This is a more complex style than its stablemate under the Greenstone brand (below). Estate-grown in the Chinaman’s Terrace Vineyard at Bendigo, in Central Otago, the 2009 vintage (4*) was fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for 18 months in French oak barriques and puncheons (25 per cent new). A mouthfilling, well-rounded wine with plenty of personality, it has a creamy, slightly toasty bouquet, leading into a peachy, buttery palate, with good concentration and complexity.
