The debut 2020 vintage (5*) of The Landing's premium Chardonnay was estate-grown in the Bay of Islands. Hand-picked mostly from vines planted in 2007, it was low-cropped (3.5-5.5 tonnes/ha), fermented and matured for 11 months in French oak barrels (50 per cent new), and then 'blended to tank for more than a year, aging on its full yeast lees.' Bright yellow/green, it is highly fragrant, weighty and rich, with deep stonefruit flavours, mealy and toasty notes adding complexity, and a well-rounded, harmonious finish. Still youthful, it should be at its best 2024+. (To be released around March 2023.)
