Sugar Loaf Marlborough Riesling (2021)

The 2021 vintage (4.5*) from this Rapaura-based producer has obvious potential for cellaring. Pale lemon/green, it is invitingly scented, fresh and lively, with lemony, peachy, slightly appley flavours, showing excellent delicacy and depth, and a finely balanced, gently sweet (28 grams/litre of residual sugar), lingering finish. Best drinking 2024+. Unfolding impressively, the refined 2020 vintage (5*) is a highly attractive, medium style with excellent intensity and vigour, good acid spine and a long future ahead. Now breaking into full stride, the 2019 vintage (4.5*) is open and expressive, with gentle sweetness, rich, peachy flavours, and very good delicacy, poise and length. All three offer fine value.
