Estate-grown at Clevedon, in South Auckland, this is a classy, Merlot-based red. The youthful 2016 vintage (4.5*) is a blend of Merlot, Carmenere, Cabernet Franc and Malbec, French oak-aged for two years. Highly fragrant, it is a medium to full-bodied, savoury, supple wine with fullish colour, fresh acidity, and berryish, plummy, spicy, nutty flavours, showing very good complexity. Best drinking 2023+. The 2017 (4.5*) is a forward vintage, fragrant, savoury and smooth-flowing. Full-coloured, it is a middleweight style, with ripe blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, showing excellent complexity and harmony. Drink now or cellar.
