Pegasus Bay Sauvignon/Sémillon (2019)

This distinctive Waipara, North Canterbury wine is concentrated and complex, with loads of personality. It is typically a 70:30 blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, partly (20 per cent in 2019) fermented and matured in French oak barrels. From vines over 30 years old, the 2019 vintage (4.5*) is still very youthful. Bright, light yellow/green, it is full-bodied and tightly structured, with ripe, tropical-fruit flavours, showing very good intensity, and a crisp, dry (1.7 grams/litre of residual sugar) finish. Best drinking mid-2022+.
