This 'Aged Release' label is a re-release of the Waipara Valley, North Canterbury classic when it is 10 years old. Lovely now, the 2012 vintage (5*) was hand-harvested in late May after a ‘very cool summer’ and ‘lingering dry autumn.’ When I first tasted it, eight years ago, it showed lovely poise, with intense, peachy, slightly limey and honeyed flavours. Now, it is golden and richly fragrant, with deep, peachy, vaguely honeyed flavours, a splash of sweetness (23.5 grams/litre of residual sugar) balanced by lively acidity, and the complexity, harmony and personality derived from lengthy bottle aging.
